Growing up, I was the “sick kid” in school. Strep throat, the flu, bronchitis, colds, you name it - I missed more school days than I was present for. I was also quite “dark,” spending all my free time alone and distracting myself from the realities of life. By the time I was 18, I was diagnosed with lupus, fibromyalgia, and thyroid disease...oh, and depression, too. I was told that my immune system was unfortunately designed to attack itself, and outside of high-level pain medication to “manage the symptoms,” multiple doctors gave me the same advice: “rest as much as you can to conserve your energy.” (...If I’m always resting to conserve my energy, what am I conserving my energy FOR!?) I was told that these things just happen.
I spent 2 years feeling sorry for myself: I would sleep or watch tv in every moment of free time that I had. Thankfully, I went to therapy to try and manage my stress that seemed to exacerbate my pain.
One evening, while I was eating my favorite dinner (Doritos dipped into hot microwaved “queso” and then dipped into cold sour cream), I thought to myself, “I bet the food I eat has an impact on how I feel.” I also noticed that my mood seemed to correlate with my physical health - when I was happier, I felt better. When I was trying to escape reality, I was in much more pain (which was most of the time). I threw myself completely into my therapy sessions, and I wanted to learn about the actual foods that promote health. I asked my very healthy now-brother-in-law where he gets his nutrition info (he was blending butter into his coffee in the morning based on some kind of nutritional science that I had definitely never heard of). He told me, without hesitation, to download The Model Health Show podcast. He said that was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
...he was right. I completely transformed my eating habits, and I became interested in alternative forms of wellness. I started seeing a Bionetic practitioner out of desperation to find more ways to find health. I decided that I would not be a couch potato for the rest of my life—this was not my destiny.
Between therapy to work through my stress triggers, lifestyle changes I learned from The Model Health Show, and help through Bionetic counseling, within 6 years my symptoms were gone, and my bloodwork showed no signs of illness. I have been symptom-free since 2018, and I am truly enjoying the vibrance of life.
